Now on to Pureed Foods
Yesterday I had my post op visit with my surgeon. He said I was doing so well that I could move on to pureed foods! The first thing I had was mashed potatoes. I've been craving them.
Yesterday was incredibly eventful. My sister stopped by our house and we took the girls (my nieces) to the park in our neighborhood. It was nice, the girls had a great time. I got a little too much sun. After that, I got ready for my doctors appointment, and Lisa came to pick me up. She cleared her afternoon patients, just so she could go with me to the post-op, how very thoughtful! On our way to the Wish Center we got rear-ended! In Lisa's brand new car! At least nothing was our fault and we won't have to pay for fixing anything. The only bad thing was that we were going to be late to my doctor's appointment - so Lisa asked the fire chief to take me to Valley Medical so I could be at the appointment on time. He did - which was lucky since I almost missed my appointment.
The surgeon said I was doing great! He was very pleased with my scar and the fact that I haven't had any naesea other than my bad reaction to liquid tylenol. He said I had to give up my belly band (a really big ace bandage that secured my belly); and he made me throw it away. Today my back is a little sore - but he said that my abdominal muscles needed to start doing their own work. I also get to stop taking heprin (a blood thinner) which is nice because it makes your skin ultra sensitive to everything. Plus I have bruises all over my body since my blood was so thin. Now the only medication I am on is for my Thrush, and I really can't wait to be done with that since it tastes so gross.
After the appointment (Lisa finished with the accident and then came to my appointment); Lisa and I went to safeway and bought a whole bunch of baby food. I am not excited at the prospect of eating pureed meet - but I suppose it could be worse - I could be stuck on my all liquid diet. Monday I go back to work. I think I am ready. I think I might work my way back into work, instead of starting at 8 hours - I just don't think I have the energy to do that right now. Hopefully my boss will be nice about it - one can only hope.

24 lbs down
So I've lost a total of 24 lbs today; this is since February when I went for my first consultation. I think a lot of it is water weight as I don't feel my clothes are drowning me. Not that I've been really wearing regular clothes, jammies are supposed to be loose. Next week will be a big adjustment when I go back to work. I am hoping to go back part time for at least a week. I am so tired that I just can't imagine going to work for 8 hours a day. We'll see how my boss reacts to that.Lisa went back to work today. It is hard to not have her around. Not only was she a big help around the house but it was nice to spend so much time with her. Just being next to her makes me feel better. I know that sounds corney; but its true. Just her touch seems to calm me and makes me feel better - she is like a very good drug.
On a totally different subject. I've been watching different shows, my somewhat favorite one is "My Super Sweet 16". It amazes me that parents are so stupid that they spend thousands on a stupid 16th birthday party. Today I watched one that they spent something like 150,000. Not counting the TWO cars that they bought their daughter. I wonder if they see that this set up will ruin their daughter. What happens if she doesn't find a super rich "sugar daddy" to take care of her in the future? Or if you spend 150,000 on a 16th birthday party, how much do they spend on their weddings? And I wonder what these girls will think about how they acted when they are in the 30's? Sometimes when I see home movies from when I was 14/15ish I am embarassed about my attitude. I acted as if the world owed me something. These girls act as if the world is theirs for using and discarding, it amazes me that their parents don't just smack them. I hope that when my child is that age that I don't actually kill them from their attitude.

Only absorbing 90 or so calories
Current mood: nauseated
So we did the math on Saturday morning and I am only absorbing something like 90 calories a day. Crazy! I can feel it, I'm exhausted, it was all I could do to get up and walk yesterday. Right now I'm feeling incredibly ill, luckily I have these patches that should take away the feeling. I do seem to be doing better - I can walk much faster, and I'm able to get out of bed on my own, but I'm still not up to par.
Last night was my first night in bed, it was okay, but mostly hard. I'm a side sleeper, and right now I have to be on my back. Very hard adjustment, I don't feel like I'm getting a lot of sleep. Not to mention the medications I'm on are all taken at different times, the worst one is every 6 hours, which any way you break it up makes it hard to take. You have to be up early in the morning and late at night. But this will only be for the first few weeks, after 5 more weeks life will be back to "normal", and other than serving sizes I'll be normal me.

4 days after Surgery
Well I was released 1 day early from the hospital, and my surgeon said that I was the "poster child" for gastric bypass. The surgery itself went really smooth, the surgeon said that my liver was the perfect size (good thing I did that no good very bad diet) and that my insides were beautiful. The hospital stay wasn't too bad, but I am very glad to be home. I'm sure that the people at the hospital thought we were crazy, we were taking pictures of everything. But if I'm going to pay 22 thousand dollars for something, I'm at least going to get a scrapbook out of it :)
My recovery includes a lot of walking, right now I'm up to 13 minutes every hour. By the end of next week I have to be up to 20 minutes every hour. The walking helps a lot, it breaks up the muscle spasm, helps my instestines wake up, works out my lungs, and gives me extra energy. I have been really tired, but unable to sleep for long periods of time. It seems my body gets stale and hurts, and so I wake up.
The hardest part seems to be eating enough (I know, who would have thought) My goal is at least 32 oz per day. I've been eating since 6 am today and I'm still 8 oz short. I can only eat 1 oz at a time and have spread it out over 10 minutes. I have no desire to eat, I'm sure it's because my stomach is still healing, but who knew that 32 oz would be so hard to get done.
Lisa has been great at taking care of me, I am very lucky to have her. She has been taking care of every thing. She makes sure that take all of my medications, and stays on me about drinking all of my liquid. She also helps me around the house, I'm sure she is exhausted. However, she just made cookies - so I could kill her. I still have cravings even if I can't eat and cookies are on the top of my list. I guess I envy Lisa for being able to eat the cookies. My cravings are so weird. I want to eat things but mostly I just want to taste them, I don't want to actually eat them and swallow. What a weird felling.
I plan to post pictures, as I'm not only going to chart my weightloss but also document via pictures my weightloss.

Only 3 days to go!
Time is flying by! It seems like just yesterday that Lisa and I went in for my inital consultation at the Wish Center. They have me on this super high protien, low fat, no carb diet - I've lost 10 lbs but I think its that hardest thing I've ever done. How people actually manage to do it for more than 2 weeks is beyond me.
Yesterday was my last day at work for 2 weeks, well kinda, I'm going to have to go in on Monday for an hour to finish up some random things. I was kinda frustrated that no one really did anything. I guess it must be because I'm not making a big deal out of it. Still it would have been nice to get a card.
Last night we had dinner at my sister house to commemerate my fathers yertzite. It doesn't seem like he died 11 years ago. I spent most of the time looking at picture books. It was fun to see pictures of myself as a child. Makes me wonder what our children will be like when we have kids.
This weekend we have a ton of "last moment" things to do. Funny but the only thing I want to do is snuggle in bed with Lisa. Really funny because I'll spend a lot of time in bed over the next 2 weeks.

Good Protien Shake
So I'm on this crazy diet right now to shrink my liver for surgery.
(side note) They want your liver to shrink because your stomach sits right under your liver and if your liver shrinks its easier to get at your stomach, therefor the surgery takes less time and recovery is faster.
This diet is HIGH protein, low fat, no carb, and pretty much sucks. Yesterday I went to cash and carry and bought 22 sugar free flavors to add to my protein shakes. That was the best idea I've had. This morning I had a nada colada protein shake. Which is much better than the crappy shakes I had been having, I swear one smelled like feet.
This diet must be doing something, I've lost 7 pounds in 5 days. Lisa said I must have had a very large liver. She is gone right now to a convention, boy is it hard to not comfort eat. But I have to say I haven't, which is very impressive for me. I think I'm going to post all of my pictures on here and keep my weight-loss journal. Sure seems easier than having to post it on our website (that I haven't updated in 6 months )
Well I'm off to the airport to go pick Lisa up. I'm very excited that she is coming home after 4 LONG days!

Getting Ready for Gastric Bypass
In just 10 days I'll under go a gastric bypass. I am very excited and nervous. It has already been a huge change in my life. For the last 10 weeks I've had to change my eating habits and excercise habits.
Right now I'm on this diet that really sucks. For 2 weeks prior to surgery they want you eat a really low fat, no carb, high protein diet. I've been eating a lot of chicken ! It's enough to make you crazy.
And poor Lisa - having to deal with my crazy mood swings. I'm very lucky to have such a wonderful person in my life.
